This album cover project is unique because of the technique behind it. In order to achieve this otherworldly effect, I set up a "liquid light show" using an overhead projector, a plate of clock glass, liquids of varying density and viscosity (mineral oil, rubbing alcohol, and water), and oil dye. Liquid light shows have a history in psychedelic concert visuals.
By pouring different liquids and dyes into the transparent clock glass, which was placed over the lightbox of the overhead projector, colorful patterns began to emerge. The light shining through created an ethereal glow which captured the perfect look to represent the sound that was my inspiration: 80s/90s female dream pop, specifically the music of The Cocteau Twins.
